GYW receive training on the operations of LGS

Selected Girls and Young Women (GYW) receive training on the operations of the Local Government Service (LGS) in Agogo.

GYW involvement in meaningful Decision-making within the LGS.

A workshop on the operations of Local Government Service has been organized, for. twenty (20) GYW from Asante Akyem North, on Friday, 15th September, 2023.

The workshop which took place at Kusibo hotel in Agogo was part of EWEF’s strategy to strengthen advocacy efforts on the She Leads Project and to increase GYW access to leadership and meaningful participation in decision- making processes at all levels.

Mr. Benjamin Agyenim- Boateng, a technocrat from the Local government Service in Agogo, Asante Akyem North, educated the GYW on the systems and divisions that existed within the Local Government Service and how they can meaningfully participate in the activities of the Assembly

Workshop Expectations

The purpose that the workshop sought to serve was;

To sensitize GYW on the operations of the Local Government Service, provide GYW with the required knowledge to assist them in getting involved in decision-making in the local government service within the municipality, and finally, to lobby the local government in creating space for girls and young women to be groomed and mentored by members of the service.

Actions

GYW should note that, engaging in community activities is a sure way of gaining the approval of community members when the time comes for a person to vie for local positions.

The local government has been lobbied through its representative to allow girls and young women understudy heads within the service and create measures to bring in girls and young women for internship and voluntary services with the aim of grooming them for leadership roles.

Key Take-Away

GYW are advised to avail themselves to be voted into leadership positions within their community, more importantly, Assembly Membership positions, since, Assembly men/women are the key decision makers with the most influence at the table of discussion in the General Assembly.

GYW should form the habit of learning so that they can add value to themselves and bring value to decision-making tables.

GYW are encouraged to get involved with the Local Government Service and endeavor to rise to the helm of its operations, since, they have very few women in leadership positions within the Service structure in Asante Akyem North.
